The expanded facility within the Milford Wellness Village adds 60 nursing home beds

MILFORD, DE – [December 6, 2021] – Polaris Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center (Polaris) opened its second state-of-the-art phase, including 60 beds for nursing home care as well as short-term rehab patients. The expansion marks the latest addition to the Milford Wellness Village at 21 W. Clarke Avenue.

Phase 1 of Polaris, the Reserve Unit, which has been open since March 2020, has 26 beds along with an expansive rehabilitation gym and an Activities of Daily Living (ADL) suite. Phase 2, the Riverwalk Unit, is like the Reserve Unit and includes two distinct dining rooms, a modern activity room and several lounge areas. New admissions are now being accepted for the Riverwalk Unit.

“We approached the renovation of Polaris Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in the same way we approached the entire Milford Wellness Village,” CEO Meir Gelley said. “Transform an existing structure (the former Bayhealth Hospital) to create an innovative healthcare campus that improves upon the region’s existing services and integrates new resources to better serve southern and central Delaware.”

The Polaris expansion adds to the full range of onsite nursing care and therapy services that are managed under the expert direction of a talented healthcare team. The services at Polaris meet each individual’s specific treatment needs including physical, occupational and speech therapies, specialized physician services, respiratory care, therapeutic programming, and social services.

All services and programs meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of residents in an environment that is genuinely caring, while promoting dignity and compassion. Polaris offers private and semi-private rooms that are designed to convey an overall sense of warmth and comfort. The facility also offers a variety of engaging activities that are designed to meet residents’ interests and levels of ability.

“We’re here to serve the community with the highest level of care, services and amenities,” Gelley said. “We have created first-class accommodations that meet the needs of all residents who need short-term or long-term care.”

The Riverwalk Unit also connects to the Ventilator Care Unit, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2022. The unit will be the first operation of its kind in southern and central Delaware. Before now, many adults recovering from respiratory failure, neuro-muscular disorders and other pulmonary disorders who need a ventilator had to seek care in Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Maryland. Once the unit is open, residents will benefit from around-the-clock care by respiratory therapists and registered nurses.

The comprehensive and personalized care that residents receive at Polaris is one of the many ways the Milford Wellness Village continues to meet the healthcare needs of the City of Milford and the surrounding region. Polaris’ expansion is part of the growing number of services at the Milford Wellness Village. The campus is unique in that it offers health and wellness services for all ages, from children to seniors. Services include fitness and rehabilitation programs, education, outpatient services, primary care, lab testing, daycare, and social services.
